Kaiju Chronicles is a fan-made series by GlitterCritter set in the universe of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. This carrd gives you a compact overview of the world, the key concepts, and the cast.Use this as a reference while exploring Kaiju Chronicles.
Set in a alternate-future Earth, the story unfolds after gigantic Kaiju begin emerging from an interdimensional breach on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. The war was concentrated around nations on the Pacific Rim, with Hong Kong serving as a key operations hub and other major coastal cities—San Francisco, Sydney, Manila, Tokyo, and more—suffering repeated assaults. A multinational military organization, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, responded by building enormous, human-piloted combat machines called Jaegers. Stationed along vulnerable coastlines, these Jaegers were launched to intercept Kaiju before they reached population centers, turning the Pacific Rim into a chain of fortified cities locked in a grinding, years-long defensive campaign.
• Visual style: dense high-rises, layered sky-bridges, and cluttered signage washed in neon, holographic ads, and pastel vaporwave gradients.
• Mix of old and new: wet markets and shrine corners tucked under Jaeger billboards, mech parts shops, and grimy VR arcades.
• Nightlife runs 24/7; rain-slick streets glow with reflections of kanji, English logos, and glitchy PPDC propaganda feeds.
• Spoken language is a fast, informal Mandarin-English patois; code-switching is constant in markets, docks, diners, and black-market stalls (PPDC training standardizes Mandarin-English for cross-base comms).
• Local fashion blends streetwear, knockoff pilot gear, and retro electronics repurposed as jewelry or status symbols.
• Food scene centers on cheap, fast Chinese fusion: noodle stands, bao trucks, skewers, hotpot-in-a-cup, and Kaiju-themed novelty snacks.
• Music and media lean synth-heavy, bassy, and nostalgic; pirated vaporwave edits of PPDC broadcasts circulate as quiet protest.
The Kaiju (怪獣, Strange Beast) are a race of amphibious creatures genetically engineered by the Precursors, a sentient race from the Anteverse. In 2013, the Precursors opened a portal between dimensions at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, allowing the Kaiju to enter Earth's dimension. As biological weapons of warfare, Kaiju are extremely hostile and toxic creatures designed with the intention to wipe out all humankind. Each Kaiju is classified into five different categories. The fluid of a Kaiju is ammonia-based. Should they be killed in battle, their bodies are triggered to self-destruct immediately.Upon decomposing, their bodies release a noxious agent into the air known as "Kaiju Blue" that contaminates the air and its immediate environment, rendering it uninhabitable.
Jaegers ([ˈjɛːɡɐ], Jäger, Hunter) are a special type of mobile weapon created by the Jaeger Program. The Jaegers are the most effective first and last line of defense against the Kaiju during the Kaiju War.They were built to match the estimated scale of Kaiju and minimize damage created by conventional weapons. However, given the toxic nature of the Kaiju, Jaegers rely on hand-to-hand combat and close-quarters weapons such as swords or other blade-type weapons.Jaegers are controlled by two, or rarely, three, pilots. Pilots are equipped in a type of specialized armor that allows them to simultaneously interface with the machine. The pilots' very minds are connected in a neural bridge that allows them to control the machine's every movement.Jaegers are equipped with weapons that cauterize wounds inflicted on Kaiju to prevent the spread of their highly acidic internal fluids. Sometimes Jaegers are used to remove Kaiju corpses and their waste.
• Massive coastal PPDC stronghold housing Jaeger hangars, launch bays, command ops, and pilot facilities.
• Serves as primary coordination node for defense of South China Sea and key Pacific Rim trade corridors.
• Architecture is reinforced concrete and steel, patched from years of impacts, with exposed gantries and cargo cranes over flooded drydocks.
• Interior combines high-tech command suites with cluttered, lived-in barracks, training decks, and maintenance bays.
• Constant activity cycle: tech crews, pilots, and support staff working around the clock to keep Jaegers combat-ready.
• Commanded by Marshal Ren "Stonewall" Jia, whose strict discipline and anti–black market stance shape base culture and security.
Harvesting the organs of a Kaiju is a highly profitable business on the black market. The popularity of Kaiju organ smuggling on the black market rivals that of ivory by the year 2025.Harvesters act separately from the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, operating for others or their own personal gain. However, there have been instances where the Defense Corps would contract harvesters in order to gain access to Kaiju organs that have research and military value.Harvesting Kaiju organs or other body parts from the creatures is considered illegal, prompting harvesters to act quickly when scavenging the bodies of fallen Kaiju within an exclusion zone. The Kaiju Black Market is run by Yos Drake: flamboyant, surgically altered crime lord with bleached hair, deep spray tan, and a constant smile.
